What the Dickens?!
Happy 200th birthday, Charles Dickens!
Charles John Huffam Dickens was born 200 years ago today in Portsea, Hampshire, England. Dickens is regarded as the most important Victorian writer; he is certainly the best-known.
His most popular novel? Perhaps A Christmas Carol or Oliver Twist, both seen by millions as movies. Over a century after publication, people still read and study his works; many have been adapted to screen and stage and have become familiar separate from their author.
My favorite Dickens work is Great Expectations. What's yours?
